Rawalpindi Medical College purchased ultrasound machine
Rawalpindi:The administration of District Headquarters Hospital took special steps for strengthening its different departments including gynaecology, urology and surgery.

“After getting sanction from Principal Rawalpindi Medical College and Incharge Allied Hospitals, we have purchased an ultrasound machine, two surgical operation tables, one ureteroscope and four ECG machines with the budget that might lapse by the end of current financial year,” said official spokesman of DHQ Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Zafar Mehmood while talking to ‘The News’.

He said that the budget was supposed to be spent on electro medical equipment that could not be imported within the current fiscal year. “The budget available to the DHQ Hospital for the said equipment might lapse because we did not pay the amount for opening LC hence we decided to spend the amount on up-gradation of different units.” Dr Zafar said that the DHQ Hospital decided to purchase another ultrasound machine as a part of its initiative to enhance healthcare services for female patients up to maximum possible extent.

The DHQ Hospital is running 52-beds gynaecology department. He said that the recently purchased ultrasound machine has been installed at gynaecology ward of the hospital and has started functioning. “With the induction of recently purchased ultrasound machine, a total of five ultrasound machines have become available to patients in different units.” He said that earlier four ultrasound machines were operating in units including labour room, Gynaecology Outpatient Department, General OPD and Emergency Department of the hospital but there was no ultrasound machine in the gyne ward and women patients from there had to move to other units of the hospital to avail the facility.

To a query, he said that though the DHQ Hospital does not have a full-fledged urology department however Associate Professor of Urology at Rawalpindi Medical College Dr Mumtaz Ahmad is serving as consultant at the hospital in a small unit. “The installation of ureteroscope at DHQ Hospital would enhance the quality of services being rendered to patients in the small urology unit functioning under supervision of Dr Mumtaz.” Dr Zafar said that earlier only nine ECG machines were available at the hospital of which five have been operating at Emergency Department of the hospital while only four were available for patients in different wards of the hospital.

“With the purchase of four ECG machines, a total of eight ECG machines have become available for patients in wards other than emergency department.” He said that the DHQ Hospital administration has developed a centre point to keep the said eight ECG machines from where the ECG operator takes the machine to any ward wherever it is required. The news
