Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal elected  MTA President
LAHORE:PROF Dr Javed Akram, Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College/Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, has been unanimously elected as President of the Medical Teachers Association (MTA), Punjab. The office-bearers of the Medical Teachers Association were elected in a General Body meeting of the MTA, Punjab, which was convened in AIMC auditorium on Saturday, where delegates from the Medical Teachers Associations of all medical colleges from the whole Punjab participated.

According to details, Dr Waseem Rabbani was elected as President (Elect), Prof Nadeem Hafeez Butt as Executive Vice President, Dr. Ayesha Shoukat as Lady Vice President, Dr. Naveed Hotina and Dr. Mohsin Gillani as Vice Prersidents, Dr. Tehsin Riaz as General Secretary, Dr. Sajjad Hassan as Finance Secretary and Dr. Rana Arshad and Dr. Masood-ul-Haq were elected as Joint Secretary of the PMTA. The office-bearers of the MTA, Punjab, were elected by the show of hands.

Dr. Saeed Elahi, Chairman of Chief Minister’s Taskforce on Spurious Drugs, took oath from the newly elected body of the MTA, Punjab. Prof. Mehmood Ali Malik (ex-Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College) and Saba Sadiq was also present. Javaid Hashmi, senior leader of PML-N, also praised the establishment of MTA, Punjab, and congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of MTA, Punjab. Various problems and issues faced by the medical teachers were thoroughly discussed in the meeting.

Prof Nadeem Hafeez Butt proposed a draft of the constitution of MTA, Punjab. Dr. Waseem Rabbani, Dr. Khurrum and Dr. Masood also spoke about different problems of the medical community. Finally, it was mutually decided to make utmost efforts to make the MTA, Punjab, more active and vibrant body in all medical colleges of the Punjab. Dr. Saeed Elahi termed it a historical event and hoped that this newly elected body of the MTA, Punjab, could play a pivotal role to solve various issues faced by the medical teaching faculty.
