ISLAMABAD - To revive diminishing library culture and book reading, a two-day book exhibition kicked off here on Friday at the National Library.
The exhibition was organised by Department of Libraries, Ministry of Education.
A large number of booksellers displayed their best selling books at the exhibition. The exhibition was arranged with an aim to give opportunity to the reading public of Islamabad to select books of their choice for the component libraries of the Department.
Minister of State for Education Ghulam Farid Kathia inaugurated the book fair.
Addressing the gathering he emphasised book reading and said reading and library culture must be promoted in order to stimulate progress and prosperity in the country. The Minister showed his concern over the misuse of Internet by youth of the nation.
The minister said that the present government would extend all possible support to the library sector.
The exhibition will promote reading habits in the country and bridge the gap between reader and the book. Books on a wide range of subjects are put on display during the exhibition.
Ch Muhammad Nazir, Director General, Department of Libraries, National Library of Pakistan briefed about the objectives of the exhibition. He said that Department of Libraries was making all out efforts o provide knowledge resources for intellectual growth of the action.
Books for National Library, Islamabad Public library, Model Children Library and six Islamabad Community libraries will be selected during the exhibition.Nation
