Schools security beefed up

ISLAMABAD: Following two bomb explosions in the federal capital few days back apparently meant to scare students of the city, the capital police has enhanced security around the educational institutions, DSP Security Altaf Khattak told Daily Times on Monday.

He said that under the new arrangements, personnel of Anti-Terrorist Squad would remain deputed outside schools and colleges, particularly those of girls and where boys and girls studied together.

Giving further details, he said the Squad comprised commandoes including female commandoes, Eagles and Falcons personnel and members of Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) assisted it in its operations.

He said that plans were also in the pipeline to increase the number of pickets in the capital from the existing 67. He admitted that increasing number of checkposts created problems for people particularly for students and office goers, as they could not reach their destinations on time.

“However, the delicate security situation necessitates all such arrangements,” he added in the same breath.Daily times
