Peshawar University Teachers Association opposes UoP ‘land usage’

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) has criticised the Nowshera police for its plans to construct a police station building at the Azakhel Botanical Garden.

According to a press release, the association would go on strike if the police did not stop encroaching on the garden. The association said that 83 acres land of the garden was handed over to the University of Peshawar in 2005 for carrying out research and academic activities.

The communication said the land was being used for research purposes to protect endangered varieties of various plants, adding that the university had launched Bachelor of Science (Botany) programme at the newly established academic building.

The press release read that PUTA would make efforts to launch more departments at this place to provide the students an opportunity to get higher education. The PUTA asked the governor to take notice of the alleged attempt by the police to grab the university land at Azakhel. The news
