Rootsians get commendation certificates

Islamabad:Twelve students of the Roots School System were awarded commendation certificates in different age groups of Commonwealth Essay Contest 2009.

Abdur Rehman, Hadia Iftikhar, Eman Riaz, Neha Omair, Matthew Pinho, Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Ammar, Fatima Shehzad, Hira Noor, Mahnoor Afgan, M. Saud Shahid and Shanzey Yousaf Lodhi have won high commendations and commendation certificates for their essays.

The results were released on Tuesday by the Royal Commonwealth Society on their website.

The competition was organised in four age groups, which are called classes. They are: Class A (16-18 year), Class B (14-15 year), Class C (12-13 year) and Class D (under 12 years).

Every year, the Commonwealth Essay Competition inspires thousands of young writers from all over the world. Essays pour into the London office of the Royal Commonwealth Society in March every year. Organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, the competition has been running for over 100 years and is firmly established as a highly regarded and popular international education project. With young people writing from all Commonwealth countries and territories, the competition enjoys much esteem and support throughout the Commonwealth. When essays were registered, they were distributed to twenty-four examiners for judging. The Commonwealth Essay Competition may be an agent for local and international social change, as it encourages literacy and reflective thought.

The competition offers young children the opportunity to make their voice heard on a global platform and encourages students to engage with issues, which are important to them.THE NEWS
