Islamabad: The teachers working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) are all set to come on roads during the second phase of their boycott if their demands are not met till Saturday, it is learnt reliably.

According to the information, teachers are now thinking for various other options including protests and rallies on roads if their demands are not met. Sources revealed that the next strategy regarding second phase of the strike was discussed in detail during a meeting of Federal Government Teachers' Association (FGTA) held here on Friday but the decision was not disclosed.

Reportedly FGTA would hold a meeting on Saturday afternoon in which the decision regarding the change of strategy during second phase would be finalised. "Till now we were peaceful and staged sit-in protests but we can't continue with this policy any longer," said a teacher requesting anonymity.

It has been learnt reliably that the decision regarding the protests and rallies on roads have been taken but the teachers are now waiting for the response from the Education Ministry. "We will wait till Saturday afternoon after which we will announce our next strategy, that is, protest demonstrations on roads," he said.

According to the sources, initially teachers were thinking that the issue would be resolved immediately in the wake of centralised Class V examinations, but after its postponement they believe it would take time. "In order to press the authorities more effectively to resolve the issue and fulfil their demands, it is mandatory to change the strategy now," said an official of the FGTA.

He said that keeping the greater interest of thousands of innocent students and the most crucial timing of end of final term, the high-ups concerned must move with the supersonic speed and not at snail's pace.

"We have kept all doors open, but at appropriate level. Uniform nomenclature of all institutions under FDE and uniform nomenclature of all teachers of all levels with minimum BPS-16 for teachers cannot be delayed any longer. These are the key issues besides many others to bring the teachers and students back in the classrooms," said FGTA President Azhar Mahmood Awan on Friday.
