Students who appeared in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual Examination conducted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) have been given the option of either re-appear in the physics paper or to remain content with marks they would obtain in the previous paper, a senior official of the FBISE told ‘The News’ on Tuesday.

The physics paper was declared out-of-course by both teachers and students. They raised a lot of hue and cry and asked the FBISE to conduct the paper again.

The press release issued by the FBISE regarding re-examination of physics paper of class 10th was not clear whether there was any option for those students who were satisfied with the paper not to opt for re-examination. Students were confused about the status of those who did not want to appear in the physics paper again, which has been rescheduled for May 16.

Muzafar-ul-Hassan, controller examination at the FBISE, told ‘The News’ that the education board has not penalised students. If any student does not want to reappear in the physics paper for class 10th scheduled for May 16, the marks obtained in the previous paper would be counted in his or her result. He said that it was not mandatory for every student to appear in the physics paper as the FBISE has not cancelled the paper.

“The FBISE has facilitated students and announced holding of examination at all centres throughout the country. Every student has an option to reappear in the paper,” said the controller examination. He added “Those students who would not reappear in the physics paper will not be marked absent and their marks would be counted from the paper in which they had already appeared.”
